Johannesburg – The Pan-African Parliament (PAP), the legislative arm of the African Union, has called for a transparent and inclusive mediation process to address the ongoing post-election crisis in Mozambique. The crisis, which has persisted for two months, has resulted in deadly violence claiming over 250 lives and causing widespread destruction.
In a statement reported by the African Press Agency, Duduzile Sambudla-Zuma, President of the PAP’s Southern Caucus, emphasized the importance of initiating a “transparent and inclusive mediation process” to end the chaos and unrest in Mozambique. “The Southern Caucus expresses its deep sadness and profound concern over the post-election crisis in Mozambique, which has led to widespread destruction, chaos, and loss of life,” the statement read.
The Southern Caucus condemned the violence in unequivocal terms, urging all Mozambican parties to exercise restraint, maintain calm, and prioritize dialogue over discord.
This call is part of broader efforts by the African Union to promote peace and stability across the region, as Mozambique grapples with heightened political and social tensions following its recent elections.
