Benin: Terrorist attack against the army in the north

The Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (GSIM), affiliated with Al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility on Friday for an attack that killed at least 28 Beninese soldiers on Wednesday in the northern part of the country, near the border with Niger and Burkina Faso.

The group stated in its communiqué:
“With Allah’s help and success, on Wednesday, 8th Rajab 1446, corresponding to January 8, 2025, our brothers, the mujahideen, were able to launch an assault on a Beninese army post in Ouda, in the province of Karimama. This operation resulted in the death of more than 30 elements.”

This statement, issued by GSIM (or Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimeen in Arabic), was cited by the American NGO Site Intelligence Group. It added that “28 elements of the defense and security forces were killed.”
