Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) announced the suspension of its activities in the Zamzam displacement camp, located in western Sudan, due to ongoing clashes and violence in the region. The camp, which houses more than 500,000 people, most of whom were displaced by the conflict between paramilitary forces and the army of General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has been facing an increasingly dire situation since the escalation of fighting in April 2023.
MSF stated that the intensification of violence made it impossible to continue its essential humanitarian missions. This suspension comes amid a food crisis and a severe deterioration of living conditions for civilians, particularly in the Zamzam camp, which is already suffering from severe food shortages.
