Ahead of the Christian Lent, which begins on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, the social works team of the President of the Transition carried out a distribution of 300 food kits on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. A total of 150 food kits were handed over to the Catholic Church and 150 to the Protestant Church. Each kit contained essential food items such as pasta and oil.
Mr. Aguibou Dembele, Special Advisor to the President of the Transition in charge of social works, was accompanied by his delegation, which included two mission officers from the President’s office and a representative from the Administrative and Financial Directorate of the Presidency (DAF). They were joined by the representative of the Governor of Bamako District and the Director of Social Development and Solidarity Economy.
The recipients expressed their gratitude for this gesture of solidarity from the President of the Transition. They thanked him while offering prayers for a successful Ramadan for Muslims and a peaceful Lent for Christians. Prayers were also said for the stability and peace of Mali.
According to the Special Advisor, this donation to the Christian community is part of the broader Ramadan operation, which began a few days before Ramadan and has already reached nearly 4,000 families across Mali. A total of 19 localities have benefited from this operation, which is part of the President’s ongoing social works initiative, with over 20 donations made. The main goal of this initiative by the Head of State is to foster unity within families and encourage all Malians to be more supportive. Mr. Aguibou Dembele noted that this is one of the rare occasions when both Muslims and Christians are fasting at the same time.
