Guinea: Presidential election expected before the end of 2025
Guinea’s government spokesperson, Ousmane Gaoual Diallo, announced that a presidential election could be held before the end of 2025, following a referendum on a new constitution planned for May. This announcement comes after the military junta, in power since the 2021 coup, failed to fulfill its initial commitment to hold elections by 2024 under international pressure.
The Guinean government plans to hold presidential or legislative elections in October 2025, following the adoption of the constitution. This decision comes as the country faces growing criticism over the delays in transitioning to an elected civilian government.
