Egypt Calls for Applying Senegal River Basin Model to the Nile
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty praised yesterday, Saturday, the successful cooperation among Senegal River Basin countries in managing their shared water resources. Speaking at a joint press conference in Cairo with his Senegalese counterpart, Yassine Fall, he described it as a model to be emulated, expressing hope that similar principles of consensus, partnership, and prior notification could be applied in the Nile Basin to protect the rights of downstream countries.
Abdel Aty also highlighted Egypt’s commitment to strengthening ties with Senegal in security, defense, and counterterrorism. He commended Al-Azhar’s role in promoting moderate Islamic values and supporting Senegalese students. Additionally, both ministers discussed regional and international issues, including developments in Africa and the Middle East, as well as enhancing cooperation within the African Union.
