ECOWAS Reaffirms Commitment to Security Cooperation with Sahel Nations
The Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Abdel-Fatau Musah, has reiterated the organization’s commitment to continued collaboration with Sahel nations on security and humanitarian issues.
In an exclusive statement to RIA Novosti, Musah emphasized the need for collective efforts to tackle terrorism in the region, saying: “Sooner or later, we will have to sit together and discuss how to eradicate terrorism from the region collectively. When it comes to security and humanitarian issues, [ECOWAS] wants to continue working with the Sahel nations.”
His remarks come amid increasing security challenges in the Sahel, where escalating terrorist attacks and instability underline the urgent need for regional cooperation to restore peace and stabil.
