The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has criticized the international community for its lack of concrete action in response to the ongoing M23 rebel offensive in the country’s east. During a press conference in Brussels on Wednesday, Congolese Foreign Minister Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner expressed frustration over the situation, stating, “We hear many statements, but we see no action.” Her remarks came after a meeting with Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot, where she reiterated Kinshasa’s concerns about Rwanda’s alleged support for the M23 rebels.
Despite a ceasefire announced in Goma the previous day, M23 and Rwandan troops launched a new offensive on Wednesday, capturing a mining town in South Kivu province and advancing toward Bukavu, the provincial capital. The fall of Goma last week marked a significant escalation in the conflict, intensifying calls for stronger international intervention. The Congolese government continues to urge the global community to take decisive steps to halt the rebel advance and restore stability to the region.
