BTIP: Strengthening Tanzania’s Power Grid and Improving Lives
The Backbone Transmission Investment Project (BTIP) has significantly improved Tanzania’s national power grid, with a notable impact in the capital, Dodoma. Reliable electricity has transformed daily life, benefiting businesses, industries, and essential services like healthcare. At Dodoma Regional Referral Hospital, the drastic reduction in power outages has enhanced operations, ensuring safer conditions during critical surgeries and improving overall patient care.
With over $470 million in funding from the Tanzanian government, the African Development Bank, and the World Bank, BTIP has played a key role in modernizing the country’s energy infrastructure. The construction of a 400 kV substation has strengthened the power supply, supporting economic growth and sustainable development. This project highlights the transformative impact of strategic energy investments on communities and national progress.
