Algeria and Niger Expand Energy Cooperation
Algeria has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Niger in the construction of an oil refinery with a minimum capacity of 100,000 barrels per day, along with a petrochemical plant in the Dosso region. This initiative aims to strengthen Niger’s petroleum industry and train specialists in the energy sector.
During a meeting in Algiers on February 10, 2025, Algerian Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab and his Nigerien counterpart Sahabi Oumarou emphasized the importance of enhancing energy collaboration. Algeria, with its expertise in hydrocarbons, is assisting Niger in crude oil analysis to optimize refining processes, while its state-owned company Sonatrach is actively involved in exploration projects in Niger.
The Gas Pipeline between the two countries , a strategic project that could transport Nigerien gas to Europe via Algeria. Both governments have stressed the need for continued coordination to ensure the project’s success, reinforcing their broader energy partnership.
