Nigerian Authorities Condemn Denial of Army Chief’s Travel to Canada
Editorial : Africa Eye
The denial of travel to Nigerian Army Chief, General Christopher Musa, to Canada for a veterans’ tribute ceremony has sparked an angry response in Nigeria. Canadian authorities refused to grant General Musa a visa, despite his official invitation to attend the event, which the Nigerian government considers a violation of diplomatic protocol and a lack of respect for their country.
In a statement, the Nigerian President’s National Security Adviser expressed his strong displeasure with the decision, calling it “unacceptable” and emphasizing that such actions negatively affect bilateral relations between Nigeria and Canada.
For its part, the Canadian Embassy in Abuja commented on the incident, noting that it could not provide details about individual visa requests due to privacy policies. However, the embassy did not offer an official explanation for the refusal of General Musa’s visa application.
