DRC: Thousands Flee to Burundi from DRC Amid Violence
Violence in eastern the Democratic Republic of the Congo has forced around 42,000 people to seek refuge in Burundi within two weeks, the United Nations reported on Friday. Initially, the UN had anticipated 58,000 arrivals over a three-month period. This influx of Congolese refugees, triggered by the advances of the anti-government M23 armed group and its Rwandan allies in the region, is unprecedented in the past 25 years, according to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
