Three Defendants Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for the 2018 Terrorist Attack in Ouagadougou
The High Court of Ouagadougou issued its verdict this Tuesday regarding the perpetrators of the jihadist attack that struck the Burkinabe capital in March 2018. Three individuals were sentenced to life imprisonment for their role in the simultaneous double attack on the Burkina Faso Army’s General Staff and the French Embassy. The attack resulted in eight deaths and 85 injuries.
The trial took place before the judicial chamber specialized in combating terrorism, where eight defendants were tried for charges of “terrorism,” “complicity in murder,” and “complicity in attempted murder.” In addition to the three life sentences, the court also reviewed the charges against the other suspects.
This verdict marks an important step in Burkina Faso’s fight against terrorism as the country continues to face violent attacks from jihadist groups.
