Historic AES Flag Raising Marks Step Towards Unity
Editorial : Hala El bassir
On Monday, a historic moment unfolded at the Koulouba Presidential Palace in Mali with the first official flag-raising ceremony of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES). The event, led by General Assimi Goïta, President of Mali and the AES, marked a significant milestone in strengthening the unity and solidarity between Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. The ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including General Malick Diaw, President of the National Transition Council, Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maïga, and other members of the government. Diplomats accredited to Mali also participated, highlighting the event’s regional importance.
The flag raising, which took place simultaneously in Burkina Faso and Niger, sends a strong message of unity, fraternity, and determination from the people of these three nations to move forward with deeper regional integration. This act, which also marks the official adoption of the AES flag on February 22, 2025, reflects the shared commitment of these countries to cooperate politically, economically, and securely for a more stable and prosperous future.
