Haj Adam Youssef, former vice president of the ousted Sudanese president Omar Bashir and head of the political sector of the National Congress Party, confirmed that the party supports the armed forces “with money and men” in its fight against what he called “militias,” emphasizing that this support is driven by a “sense of national duty” and not by seeking influence within the military.

In an interview with Al Jazeera Mubasher, Haj Adam denied any relationship between his party and the military forces, whether official or unofficial, and rejected accusations regarding the party’s influence within the military or its communication with the army’s commander, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.

Regarding the detention of Omar Bashir and National Congress Party leaders, he clarified that the authorities are holding them under the army’s guard, confirming that they are suffering from serious health conditions and are requesting to be treated either within Sudan or abroad, but the authorities are refusing this.

Despite the decision to dissolve the National Congress Party after Bashir’s regime fell in 2019, Haj Adam insisted that the party does not recognize this decision and continues to carry out its activities inside and outside Sudan. He also described the government formed after Bashir’s fall as a “dissident faction,” asserting that his party continues to play its political role.

Regarding internal conflicts, Haj Adam stated that they are “differences of opinion” currently being discussed within the party’s institutions.
