A high-level Sudanese delegation, led by Humanitarian Aid Commissioner Salwa Adam Baniyah, held crucial meetings in France and Norway to address the humanitarian crisis in Sudan. In Paris, they met with Pierre Salignon, Director of the Humanitarian Operations Center at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who reaffirmed France’s commitment to supporting Sudanese refugees through international humanitarian organizations. Commissioner Baniyah provided a detailed briefing on the situation, denying claims of famine but highlighting systematic starvation tactics by militias, including looting aid convoys, destroying agricultural harvests, and imposing blockades on cities like El Fasher. She stressed Sudan’s urgent need for reconstruction projects, particularly in recently reclaimed areas where displaced populations are returning, and assured the safety of humanitarian workers in the country.

The delegation also met with Norwegian officials, including Sven Tali, Director of Humanitarian Affairs at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Tali reiterated Norway’s dedication to humanitarian assistance and Sudan’s territorial integrity, expressing willingness for transparent discussions on aid delivery. Baniyah welcomed Norway’s approach, emphasizing the importance of direct dialogue to counter misinformation. She detailed Sudan’s efforts to facilitate humanitarian work through streamlined visa processes, movement permits, and tax exemptions. Finally, she urged international organizations to adhere to their mandates, warning against overstepping their designated roles.
