Uganda: 18 Journalists Assaulted by Security Forces During Election, RSF Reports
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has condemned the violent assault of 18 journalists by Ugandan military personnel and members of an anti-terrorism unit while covering a local election in Kampala last week. The organization expressed concern over increasing repression just a year ahead of the presidential election.
“At least 13 journalists reporting on the March 13 by-election in Kawempe North, a district in northern Kampala, were severely beaten by Ugandan security forces,” RSF stated in a press release on Thursday evening, emphasizing that all journalists were clearly identifiable.
