Edition : Africa Eye
Former international football stars Emmanuel Adebayor of Togo and Charles Kaboré of Burkina Faso were received by Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, during a high-level meeting focused on sports development and youth empowerment through football. Charles Kaboré, who now serves as an ambassador for sport in Burkina Faso, highlighted the symbolic value of this meeting, stressing the president’s vision of sport as a powerful tool for uniting African youth and fostering solidarity across the continent.
Kaboré emphasized that the discussions with President Traoré helped shape a clear roadmap through which retired international players can contribute to the national strategy for sports promotion. He praised Adebayor’s presence, describing him as a legendary figure whose career across various clubs and countries has been a source of inspiration for many young Africans.
For Adebayor, the encounter was both significant and motivational. “It’s an honor to meet a president who has a vision for Africa,” he stated, adding that speaking directly with President Traoré offered a unique and uplifting perspective beyond public speeches. He reaffirmed his commitment to working alongside other former players to support the growth of football across Africa, echoing his deep connection to Burkina Faso as a neighboring and brotherly nation to Togo.
In response, President Traoré expressed Burkina Faso’s full support for these sports leaders and their initiatives, whether implemented within the country or abroad, reaffirming his belief in sport as a driving force for development and unity.
