In a deadly attack last Friday, several dozen Burkinabe soldiers and civilian militia members were killed in a suspected jihadist assault in the eastern part of Burkina Faso, according to local and security sources reported to AFP on Sunday.
The attack took place at the military detachment in Diapaga, the capital of Tapoa Province in the Eastern region. A security source from the area stated that “several dozen deaths and numerous injuries” were reported following the violent assault. The victims included soldiers and Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), which are civilian militia supporting the military’s efforts.
This attack highlights the ongoing insecurity and rising violence in the eastern part of Burkina Faso, where extremist groups have gained strength, further threatening both military personnel and civilians alike.
