Sudanese Army Recaptures Key Market in Omdurman from Paramilitary Forces
Edition : Africa Eye (with AFP)
The Sudanese army announced yesterday, Saturday, that it had regained control over a major marketplace in Omdurman, a city neighboring the capital Khartoum, from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The market had been used by RSF units as a base for launching attacks against military positions.
This announcement came shortly after the army declared on Thursday that it had secured full control over Khartoum, nearly two years into a brutal civil conflict with the RSF.
In a statement, military spokesperson Nabil Abdullah confirmed that government forces had taken over the Libya Market in Omdurman and had seized weapons and equipment left behind by retreating RSF fighters. The army’s advance is being presented as a significant step in reasserting control over contested urban areas.
