Egypt to Host Ministerial Meeting of the Khartoum Process on Migration
Edition: Widad wahbi
Egypt is set to host the ministerial meeting of the Khartoum Process on Wednesday, as part of its chairmanship of the initiative since April 2024. The gathering will bring together ministers from African and European countries, alongside representatives from international organizations, with the aim of strengthening cooperation on migration issues.
According to a statement released Tuesday by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty will preside over the meeting scheduled for April 9, describing the Khartoum Process as “a platform for coordination, consultation, and political cooperation on migration from East Africa to Europe.”
Launched in November 2014 by the European Union, the initiative formally known as the “EU–Horn of Africa Migration Route Initiative” was created in partnership with ten African nations. It aims to address the root causes and consequences of irregular migration and established an office in Khartoum for that purpose.
