French President Emmanuel Macron and Egypt’s Abdel Fattah al-Sisi elevated bilateral relations to a strategic partnership during Macron’s April 2025 Cairo visit. France pledged €260 million via the French Development Agency to bolster Egypt’s infrastructure in health, transport, energy, and water, aligning with IMF-backed economic reforms. The leaders also emphasized joint efforts with international bodies to stabilize Egypt’s economy amid regional challenges.

On regional security, both nations demanded an immediate Gaza ceasefire, hostage releases, and expanded humanitarian aid. They rejected forced Palestinian displacement and reaffirmed commitment to a two-state solution, positioning themselves as mediators in the crisis. This unified stance underscores their role in advocating diplomatic resolutions during heightened Middle Eastern tensions.

A landmark €7 billion deal to build a green hydrogen and ammonia complex in Ras Shokeir marked the visit’s economic highlight. Slated for 2029 operations, the project aims to cement Egypt as a regional clean energy hub and boost Franco-Egyptian collaboration in sustainable innovation. This initiative aligns with global climate goals and strengthens both nations’ roles in the green energy transition.
