The High Council for Audiovisual Communication organized a workshop on Saturday, May 3, 2025, focusing on the role of journalists and media professionals in fostering national commitment and civic participation amidst the country’s ongoing security crisis.

Held at the Social Affairs Center in Ouagadougou under the theme “What is the contribution of Burkinabe journalism to the restoration of national territory and the affirmation of our full and complete sovereignty?”, the event aimed to spark dialogue and reflection on the media’s responsibility in supporting national efforts.

According to Louis Modeste Ouédraogo, president of the High Council, the objective is to encourage national engagement and active participation from journalists and media outlets in the fight against terrorism, the reinforcement of national sovereignty, and the promotion of self-driven development.

The workshop featured several key discussions, including the contribution of Burkinabe journalism to combating terrorism and restoring national sovereignty, the national commitments and civic participation required in the current context, the challenges and strategic role of Burkinabe journalism amid the country’s complex security situation, the broader contribution of the press in fighting terrorism, and the concept of a national pact for Burkinabe journalism.

The workshop took place as the world marked World Press Freedom Day on May 3, underscoring the critical role of the media in promoting democratic values and fostering resilience, even during periods of national crisis.
