Three Rwandan peacekeeping soldiers were killed and six others wounded over the weekend in an ambush in northern Mozambique, a spokesperson for the Rwandan army announced on Tuesday.
The attack occurred on Saturday in Cabo Delgado province, the epicenter of insurgent violence in Mozambique since 2017. The region has been plagued by jihadist attacks that have claimed nearly 6,000 lives, including 2,500 civilians, according to conflict-tracking organization ACLED.
The Rwandan army did not provide further details on the perpetrators or the exact circumstances of the ambush but affirmed its continued commitment to peacekeeping operations in the region.
