President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani presided Thursday morning over the inauguration of three major infrastructure projects in the Tevragh-Zeina district of Nouakchott West, alongside the groundbreaking for a fourth initiative. Described by the presidency as “key structural investments,” these projects are part of the government’s broader efforts to modernize national infrastructure in digital education, sovereign data management, and healthcare.
The National School of Administration, Journalism, and Judiciary, now inaugurated, is designed to accommodate up to 720 students across 24 classrooms. The new facility includes 36 administrative offices, a large library for 70 researchers, two lecture halls, audiovisual and language labs, multi-use rooms, student housing, a mosque, a medical clinic, and a cafeteria. The total construction cost reached 2.15 billion old ouguiyas.
Also inaugurated was the Nouakchott Data Center, the first of its kind in Mauritania, built to strict international standards to secure, store, and process sovereign data, providing secure cloud services for public and private institutions. Covering 1,372 square meters, the center ensures over 99.982% operational uptime and can host up to 100 server racks, with room for future expansion. It offers advanced services including backup, disaster recovery, and AI applications, reinforcing digital sovereignty and reducing reliance on foreign data centers.
The Higher Institute of Digitalization, inaugurated at the same event, includes three lecture halls for over 450 students, administrative and academic wings, a library, a lab, classrooms, and service and commercial areas, spread over roughly 7,000 square meters.
President Ghazouani concluded the day by laying the foundation stone for the National Blood Center, expected to play a crucial role in strengthening public health by securing at least 40,000 voluntary blood donations annually. The center will include a collection room equipped with 10 to 12 chairs and will ensure nationwide blood supplies for healthcare institutions.
Together, these projects reflect a national vision focused on infrastructure modernization, digital transformation, and enhanced public services to address Mauritania’s upcoming development challenges.
