Mali: Three soldiers killed in attack on checkpoint in central region
Edited by: Widad WAHBI
At least three Malian soldiers were killed and several others were wounded or reported missing following an attack on a military checkpoint in the central town of Markala, located in the Ségou region, security sources told EFE yesterday Friday.
The attack occurred around 3:00 a.m. local time at a military post known as “Pont Bleni” and was carried out by unidentified armed individuals who opened fire indiscriminately before setting the facility on fire.
As of now, the Malian government has not issued any official statement regarding the incident.
The Ségou region, like much of central Mali, has been plagued by recurrent attacks linked to jihadist groups and local militias, contributing to the country’s ongoing security crisis. The repeated violence continues to challenge the capacity of Malian security forces to stabilize the region despite ongoing military operations.
