Niger: Three Truck Drivers Killed in Armed Attack Near Burkina Faso Border

Edition : Widad WAHBI

Three truck drivers were killed on Sunday in an attack by armed assailants along the Dori-Téra corridor, near the border between northern Burkina Faso and southwestern Niger—a region plagued by jihadist violence for several years, a Nigerien transport union announced Monday.

In a statement, the Union of Transport Workers and Related Professions of Niger (Uttan) condemned what it described as a “cowardly and barbaric attack” on a supply convoy, resulting in the deaths of “three of our brave fellow drivers.”

The assault occurred on May 18 and highlights the ongoing insecurity in this part of the Sahel, where armed groups regularly target civilians, security forces, and logistical operations essential for the local economy.

Authorities have yet to issue an official response, and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack at this time.

The region remains under heightened alert, with transport associations calling for enhanced security measures to protect drivers operating in conflict-prone zones.
