At Least 15 Killed in Jihadist Attack on Chadian Army Base in Lake Chad Region

At least fifteen people, including nine Chadian soldiers, were killed in a jihadist attack targeting an advanced military outpost on Ngouboua Island in the Lake Chad region, Chadian authorities confirmed on Sunday.
According to an official military statement, an armed group launched the assault late Saturday night, around 11:00 p.m. local time, aiming to infiltrate the strategic border zone. Chadian forces responded swiftly, and heavy fighting ensued, lasting until approximately 5:00 a.m. Sunday, when the attackers were finally repelled.
“The clashes left fifteen dead, among them nine of our soldiers,” said Colonel Ahmed Cherif, commander of the operation, who also extended his condolences to the families of the fallen.
The assault comes amid ongoing insecurity in the Lake Chad basin, an area plagued by militant violence from groups linked to Boko Haram and its splinter faction, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). Despite regional efforts, the zone remains a hotspot for jihadist incursions and armed confrontations.
