Cameroon: Four Soldiers Killed in Terrorist Attack Near Nigerian Border
Edited by: Widad WAHBI
Four Cameroonian soldiers were killed in a terrorist attack near the country’s northern border with Nigeria, local media reported Tuesday, citing security sources.
The assault occurred early Monday morning in the town of Sagmé, located near Lake Chad in the Logone-et-Chari department, a region frequently targeted by Islamist insurgents. Heavily armed assailants—believed to be affiliated with the Boko Haram terrorist group—launched the attack around 2:00 a.m., reportedly using drones to strike forward army positions.
The use of drones marks a concerning development in the tactics employed by militant groups in the region, underscoring a growing threat along Cameroon’s porous northeastern border.
Since 2014, Cameroon’s Far North Region has endured recurring violence from Boko Haram fighters operating across borders, particularly in areas adjacent to northeastern Nigeria. The group has been responsible for numerous deadly raids, kidnappings, and bombings that have destabilized local communities and displaced thousands.
The Cameroonian government has yet to issue an official statement on the incident. Security operations are reportedly underway to track the assailants.
