Chad and United States Negotiate to Ease Diplomatic Strains

Engage in critical discussions, Chad and the United States pursued dialogue last Wednesday following reciprocal visa restrictions, Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Sabre Fadoul met with US embassy representatives in N’Djaména, subsequently both parties agreed to continue talks aiming for a swift resolution to the current impasse, furthermore this meeting directly addressed the US decree of June 4th imposing entry restrictions on Chadian nationals.
Implement reciprocal measures, the Chadian government responded to the US visa suspension by restricting entry for American citizens, excluding diplomats, meanwhile Chad clarified that US residents holding valid Chadian residence permits issued before June 9th retain unrestricted entry and stay rights, concurrently the US embassy advised its citizens against travel to Chad, citing discretionary entry decisions by local authorities.
Affirm its commitment to resolving the dispute constructively, Chad’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized ongoing bilateral discussions characterized by mutual respect, the government explicitly seeks to preserve friendship and cooperation ties, calling for a prompt and equitable solution protecting both nations’ citizens, moreover President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno defended Chad’s stance, labelling the US action unjust and discriminatory while asserting national dignity and pride.
