African Union Warns: Côte d’Ivoire’s Stability Is Crucial for Regional Balance
Edited by: Widad WAHBI
During a diplomatic visit to Abidjan last Friday, the African Union (AU) emphasized the strategic importance of maintaining political stability in Côte d’Ivoire ahead of the country’s presidential election scheduled for October. The continental body reiterated its commitment to supporting Ivorian authorities to ensure the vote takes place in a peaceful and democratic atmosphere.
“Côte d’Ivoire remains a cornerstone of stability in a region increasingly destabilized by successive military coups and the threat of jihadist insurgencies,” stated Mahamat Saleh Annadif, head of the AU delegation.
“If Côte d’Ivoire catches a cold, the entire region risks falling ill,” he warned, underlining the country’s central role in maintaining geopolitical balance across West Africa.
