Côte d’Ivoire: Assalé Tiémoko Emerges as the Reformist Voice of a New Generation

Edited by: Aminata Diallo

Assalé Tiémoko Antoine — renowned investigative journalist, anti-corruption advocate, and deputy mayor of Tiassalé — has officially entered the race for Côte d’Ivoire’s 2025 presidential election, set for October 25. At a public launch held on June 14 at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Foundation in Yamoussoukro, Tiémoko unveiled his political movement, Aujourd’hui et Demain pour la Côte d’Ivoire (ADCI).

Presenting himself as the embodiment of generational renewal — a call first voiced by President Alassane Ouattara in 2022 — Tiémoko pledged to restore integrity in public service, combat endemic corruption, and rebuild trust between citizens and the state. His campaign also includes a plan to mobilize 80,000 youth volunteers to help guarantee a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.

Tiémoko’s candidacy enters a political arena shaken by the exclusion of several major opposition figures, including Tidjane Thiam, Laurent Gbagbo, Guillaume Soro, and Charles Blé Goudé. In this context, his platform stands out for its reformist ambition and generational focus.

Key proposals include a national audit of land deals, reducing institutional inefficiencies, and redirecting state resources to critical sectors such as education and health. With his commitment to transparency and social equity, Tiémoko seeks to channel widespread public frustration — especially among the youth — into a credible and transformative political force.

As the campaign season unfolds, all eyes will be on whether this new-generation candidate can shift the country’s political trajectory and inspire a broader movement for accountability and renewal in Côte d’Ivoire.
