Senegal: A New Axis with Angola

Edited by: Sekou Kagné

Senegal and Angola are entering a new phase of strategic engagement following a landmark visit to Dakar by Angolan Foreign Minister Tété António on June 16, 2025. In high-level discussions with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, António extended a formal invitation for a presidential visit to Luanda, signaling a strong political will to intensify bilateral cooperation. The two nations committed to advancing partnerships in key areas including energy, infrastructure, security, and diplomacy—anchoring a shared vision for African solidarity in a shifting geopolitical landscape.

While no binding agreements were signed during the visit, the tone was unmistakably one of alignment and ambition. Angola sees Senegal as a pivotal West African ally, while Dakar recognizes Luanda’s rising regional stature. Both capitals are moving toward institutionalizing a long-term collaboration that could redefine regional alliances within the African Union. As both countries position themselves as continental powerhouses, this budding partnership may well set the tone for a more integrated and strategically cohesive Africa.
