DRC and US Discuss Prospective Changes to Travel Protocols

The ongoing cooperation between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the United States has entered a new phase, as both countries recently engaged in focused talks about possible revisions to travel procedures. This dialogue comes after Washington indicated it may introduce new travel measures that could affect several countries, including the DRC.
During these exchanges, Vice Prime Minister Shabani Lukoo Bihango J. and Foreign Affairs Minister Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner met with US ambassador Lucy Tamlyn in Kinshasa. While these meetings are part of routine bilateral engagement, this round placed particular emphasis on strengthening the security of travel documents and enhancing systems for migration control.
As a result, both governments addressed concerns linked to the verification of identity documents and the regulation of international movement. Since the US has highlighted the need for greater document integrity and improved border management, Congolese authorities underlined their readiness to upgrade administrative systems and to align practices with international benchmarks.
Moreover, the DRC stressed its willingness to work closely with US partners, so that any technical or security issues can be resolved transparently and efficiently. Furthermore, both sides agreed on the value of protecting freedom of movement, especially within the framework of their established diplomatic ties.
In conclusion, regular technical consultations will be maintained in the coming period, thus ensuring that any changes are clearly communicated and that the partnership between Kinshasa and Washington continues to grow, regardless of emerging challenges.
