Cholera Spreads in Zimbabwe as Africa’s Food Import Costs Soar
Edited By: Tendai Zola
A cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe has expanded to eight districts, prompting health authorities to issue alerts and step up containment measures. The spread is attributed to poor sanitation and limited access to clean water, especially in remote areas.
At the continental level, Africa’s food import bill has reached record highs. The rise is driven by climate-related disruptions, declining agricultural output, and currency volatility. Experts warn of growing dependence on external supplies if structural reforms are delayed.
Despite the strain, parts of the continent continue to push forward with innovation. Solar-powered campuses, regional sports leagues, and civic activism offer signs of resilience and change amid growing public health and economic challenges.
