Nigeria is preparing to host the National Para-Badminton Championship in Abia State, bringing together athletes with disabilities from 16 states across the country. The event, announced by the National Coordinator of the Para Badminton Association of Nigeria, Samuel Ekeoma, marks a significant step toward inclusion and sports development for persons with disabilities.
According to Ekeoma, participants will compete in six different classification categories, with the tournament welcoming elite athletes, including at least one Paralympic medalist. The competition is expected to raise public awareness about para-sports and offer a platform for discovering new talent ahead of international tournaments.
The championship also highlights Nigeria’s ongoing commitment to promoting equality in sports and building an inclusive sporting environment. Organizers have expressed hopes that the event will not only foster athletic excellence but also inspire broader societal change regarding the perception and support of athletes with disabilities.
