Edited by: Maher Al Rifai
Thousands of Gambians marched through the streets of Banjul yesterday in a large-scale demonstration that drew citizens from various backgrounds. The protest, which took place around the Westfield Monument, was marked by chants and signs expressing opposition to corruption and calling for justice in response to a series of unresolved public issues.
Participants walked peacefully through the capital, holding banners and voicing their concerns in a coordinated expression of civic engagement. Petitions were delivered to several institutions, including the National Assembly and public offices, reflecting the demonstrators’ intent to formally raise attention to matters of national interest.
The march represented a rare moment of mass mobilization in the country, with visible involvement from young people and civil society groups. The turnout and scale of participation underscored a growing willingness among citizens to take part in public demonstrations and contribute to national conversations through peaceful assembly.
