A bus returning from a funeral overturned in western Kenya on Friday, resulting in 24 fatalities. This tragedy follows a series of recent accidents in the East African country, including a medical plane crash and a collision involving a train.

On Thursday around 2:30 pm local time (11:30 GMT), an ambulance plane crashed into homes in a Nairobi suburb, killing six people and injuring two others. Less than three hours later, a train collided with a bus in Naivasha, approximately two hours’ drive from the capital, killing at least eight, according to local media reports.

The bus accident occurred around 5:00 pm local time (2:00 pm GMT) in Kisumu County, in western Kenya, as the vehicle was returning from a funeral, said Peter Maina, the regional traffic commander for Kisumu.

“The driver lost control; the vehicle swerved and overturned on the opposite side of the road,” Maina told reporters at the scene.

“We have lost 21 people,” he said, listing the victims as including 10 women, 10 men, and a 10-year-old girl. Five others were seriously injured, among them an eight-month-old baby.
