Khartoum International Airport Set to Resume Operations After Over Two Years of Closure

Khartoum International Airport, closed for over two years, is now under the control of the Sudanese army and undergoing reconstruction.

The army regained control of the facility in March 2025. On Thursday, senior military official Ibrahim Jaber visited the capital for the first time since the takeover. According to Jaber, the runway has been completed, while work continues on passenger terminals, arrival halls, and utilities such as electricity and water.

Jaber stated that the reopening of the airport would facilitate travel for Sudanese citizens and strengthen diplomatic engagement. He added that the government aims to restore essential infrastructure, including hospitals, electricity, and water supply, alongside airport repairs.

According to humanitarian agencies, improved access to the airport could support aid delivery to populations affected by the conflict, which has displaced an estimated 12 million people and resulted in more than 40,000 deaths.
