Turkey Offers Mediation to Resolve the Rwanda-DR Congo Conflict and Strengthens Its Cooperation with Africa

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced his country’s readiness to provide support in resolving the conflict between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, should both parties desire it. This came during a press conference in Ankara with his Rwandan counterpart, Paul Kagame, where he expressed support for negotiations mediated by Angola and voiced hope for a peaceful resolution to ensure stability in the Great Lakes region. The two leaders also discussed enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, energy, education, culture, and defense industries. Erdoğan highlighted that Turkish investments in Rwanda have exceeded $500 million, with Turkey ranking among the top foreign trade partners of the country.

Erdoğan emphasized that Turkey is developing its relations with Africa based on an institutional approach rooted in an equitable and mutually beneficial partnership. He noted that 13% of foreign investments in Rwanda come from Turkish companies and reiterated his country’s commitment to supporting development and stability in Africa under the principle of « African solutions to African problems. » He also stressed that Turkish companies will continue investing in Rwanda to advance shared development goals.
